The Brown University School of Public Health invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. The start date is flexible but anticipated to be July 2026.
We seek exceptional candidates who will develop an independent, innovative research program focused on advancing prevention of chronic disease, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and Type II diabetes, by understanding and improving health behaviors. We particularly welcome candidates whose work has the potential to advance population health, reduce health disparities, and inform policy. Areas of desirable strength include health communication, digital health and technology, implementation science, and systems science approaches to prevention and health promotion.
The Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences has a vibrant research portfolio spanning behavioral health and intervention research and includes 13 tenured or tenure-track faculty and 30 research faculty. The Department is committed to developing and mentoring early career investigators and trains both Master’s and doctoral students in behavioral and social health sciences. Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in public health, psychology, medicine or related fields, with an emphasis on behavioral and social sciences research. Alternatively, candidates must possess a relevant clinical doctoral degree (e.g., MD). Candidates should have evidence of strong methodologic training.
Candidates must demonstrate a record of research excellence and productivity with the potential to sustain extramural funding; evidence of the ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and demonstrated commitment to improving health for all populations. The Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
