Job Description:
Farmingdale State College invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Science, Technology, & Society beginning Fall 2026. Applications are welcomed from candidates with diverse backgrounds, including: traditional STS scholars with theoretical and empirical research expertise as well as practitioners who have significant experience in the application of interdisciplinary knowledge to real-world challenges (e.g., technology policy, AI implementation, digital ethics, sociotechnical systems design, etc.).
The Science, Technology, & Society major is a customizable interdisciplinary major that prepares students to engage with complex issues and address emerging challenges which have arisen as a consequence of the interconnectedness of systems in the current era. Students in the Science, Technology, & Society program learn to apply methods of scientific thinking and creative problem solving to confront unstructured, real-world problems faced by individuals, organizations, industries, and societies in ways which cut across traditional boundaries of disciplinary thought. Due to its broad applicability and high degree of customizability, Science, Technology, & Society is one of the most popular majors on campus with roughly 1800 students currently enrolled in the program.
