Organizational Unit Overview:
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine is dedicated to providing excellence in education, patient care, research, and service in mental health. We support and advance evidence-based practice, sound scientific principles, and compassion in addressing the needs of our learners, our patients, our colleagues, and our community.
East Carolina University is the 3rd largest public university in North Carolina, with approximately 27,000 students and over 5,000 faculty and staff. ECU combines the rich tradition of college life with the energy and innovation of a doctoral research university. This combination allows students and faculty to enjoy the benefits and resources of a large research university in an atmosphere more typical of a smaller college. The University is located approximately 85 miles east of Raleigh, the capital city of North Carolina, and approximately 87 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean.
The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital). Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

NC-STeP continues to grow and will be expanding to 80 plus hospitals across the state of North Carolina within the next 12 months.
The current network includes 71 hospitals. The psychiatrist will spend most of his/her time providing direct clinical service. The position will report to the Medical Director of the Center and will assist with monitoring and improving NC-STeP outcomes; integrating with community based providers; and implementing evidenced based practices.
The position emphasizes a leadership role and an active engagement in clinical, educational, and scholarly activities.
