Job description
Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)
Graduate Online Art Education
College of Education and Health Sciences
JOB SUMMARY:
The department of Expression, Leadership and Inclusion in the School of Education, Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences at Adelphi University invites applications for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position in Graduate Online Art Education, starting Fall 2026.
The Assistant Professor of Graduate Online Art Education in the School of Education will teach synchronous (real-time, EST) and asynchronous online graduate Art Education courses in the two year MA Art Education program. The successful candidate will join a graduate program and faculty in the School of Education who are deeply committed to arts-based learning and arts-based research across disciplines, and to achieving excellence through inclusivity, reflected in Adelphi’s long history of commitment to arts as education for all learners. Online MA students apply to the program from throughout New York State and hold BFA and BA degrees in an array of visual art fields. The duties of this position include teaching and advising/mentoring online MA students as they complete School of Education courses online and satisfy New York State licensure requirements, conducting faculty research, and providing service. The successful candidate has the opportunity to build on a foundation of online MA Art Education course materials carefully designed over the past decade, and to innovate and specialize in collaboration with full-time graduate Art Education faculty members and with additional part-time faculty who are all eclectic community arts educators in the School of Education.
The Art Education online MA program is housed in the Department of Expression, Leadership and Inclusion and features a unique focus on the arts infused through its graduate courses in literacy and creative expression in the arts, special education through arts learning, and a signature series of Exploring the Arts electives in visual, literary, expressive, and performing arts education. Adelphi University’s deep arts education focus is also reflected in a legacy of local and digital exhibition spaces and arts programming, rich special collections and online archives in the arts related to Friedrich Froebel and other historic figures in Art Education, and a Reggio Emilia inspired Early Learning Center partnership and Waldorf school on campus. This arts education legacy has guided School of Education graduate courses synthesizing arts-based and creative philosophies with contemporary art teaching (A Legacy of Arts-Based Education | Adelphi University). Faculty and students within the online Art Education graduate program share a teaching community with creative colleagues in related peer online graduate School of Education programs in the Humanities including Educational Technology, English Education, Social Studies Education, Childhood Education, TESOL, Educational Leadership, Educational Theatre, and a new online Ph.D. in Learning Sciences. The online graduate faculty community is supported in teaching and technology innovation by Adelphi University’s Faculty Center for Professional Excellence.
Adelphi is reviewing the recent governmental changes to the H1B process and is encouraging all qualified candidates to apply.
