The Center for Data & Society at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA, invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track faculty position opening at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor beginning in the fall of 2025. The position requires teaching upper-level Computer Information Science (CIS) courses emphasizing programming languages, application development, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

The Center for Data & Society is an interdisciplinary departmental grouping of computer, mathematical, and social sciences whose mission is to investigate how data and information can be best used to understand the communities in which we live. The computer science department recently redeveloped its offerings for a Computer & Information degree with concentrations in management, programming, application development, interactive design, technology, and artificial intelligence and machine learning. It also contributes to the following interdisciplinary programs: Data Science, Business Analytics, and Data Studies for Social Good (DSSG).
The program offers courses to prepare students for careers in computer science and related fields. Students take courses introducing them to programming concepts, data structures, artificial intelligence, computer algorithms, computer architecture, robotics, networking, cybersecurity, and project management.
The program is committed to recruiting faculty who possess applied experience in Computer Science. We are also committed to creating an environment where a diverse group of capable, inspired individuals interact and collaborate to learn knowledge that may be applied to real work experiences. This position will require an on-campus presence.
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related discipline for the rank of Assistant Professor. Master’s degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline for the rank of Instructor.
- Minimum of three years practical experience applying concepts learned in Computer Science.
- Exhibited evidence of continued professional growth and development.
· Demonstrates proficiency in many of the following areas, with enthusiasm for broadening expertise to support a diverse and evolving curriculum.

- Python, Java, JavaScript, and other programming languages
- Mobile Application Development
- Database Management and Security
- Cloud Computing
- Systems Analysis and Design
- Project Management
- Research Methodologies
- CompTIA certifications in A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, or Cloud+ are a bonus
- Strong problem-solving, writing, and oral communication skills.
- Previous college-level teaching experience is a plus, particularly in junior and senior-level computer science programming courses.
- Documented experience with learning management systems. Preferably Canvas.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching 12 credits each academic semester, supporting the undergraduate majors in the CIS program.
- Advise major and minor students in the program in their academic course selection.
- Contribute to departmental duties, including program assessment and curriculum development.
- Perform usual duties associated with a full-time faculty appointment, including committee service.
- Support the mission of Chestnut Hill College.
