Job Summary

The Department of Educational Leadership at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure-track position in Educational Leadership at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2026. This position is a unique opportunity for a dynamic individual with significant K-12 school leadership experience and expertise in qualitative and mixed methods research to shape the next generation of educational leaders at both the master’s and doctoral levels. The ideal candidate will be a core contributor to our doctoral program, mentoring students through their dissertation research, while also preparing master’s-level students for K-12 school leader Louisiana certification. We are looking for a colleague who can bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring our graduates are prepared for the complex challenges of modern educational settings.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach doctoral-level courses in qualitative research methodology, including design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation;
  • Serve as a committee member, including dissertation chair for doctoral candidates, guiding students from proposal to final defense, with a particular focus on qualitative and mixed-methods research designs;
  • Teach master’s-level courses designed to prepare students for K-12 school leader certification, including curriculum development, school law, finance, management of personnel, supervision of assessment, and instructional leadership;
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment for both the master’s and doctoral programs, ensuring alignment with state and national standards (e.g., PSEL, NELP);
  • Maintain an active research agenda and a record of scholarly publication;
  • Demonstrate strong writing and editing skills, providing high-level feedback to students on their scholarly work;
  • Engage in service to the department, college, and university. The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester, but can be reduced when hours are funded by a grant (6 hours max.);
  • Participation in service activities for the Department, the University, your discipline, and the community is also expected.

About the Department
The Department of Educational Leadership is one of three departments within the Division of Education and Counseling. The other two departments are Curriculum and Instruction and Counseling. Educational Leadership offers a master’s degree and a doctorate degree. The department currently has 3 full-time faculty members and over 70 doctoral and master’s students. The Department faculty are proud of 1) the quality of instruction, 2) the rigor of the curriculum, 3) the level of doctoral research, and 4) the accomplishments of their graduates. A fourth faculty member is sought to support the growth and expansion of the doctoral program and assist in updating and rebuilding the master’s program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed. D. in Educational Leadership or related field and MA in Educational Leadership or related field;
  • Strong commitment to teaching a full load of 24 credit hours per academic year;
  • Serve on and Chair dissertation committees;
  • Write and speak English proficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with teaching, as well as a strong publication record covering any special problem in education;
  • At least 3 years of K – 12 school leader experience in Louisiana;
  • Commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population; and
  • Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana
