Job description

Emporia State University’s (ESU) Psychology program in Emporia, Kansas seeks applications for an instructor, assistant professor, or assistant teaching professor (Open Area) on a tenure-track or multi-year appointment, to begin Fall 2026.

The ESU Psychology program is a well-established program at a regional public university in Emporia, Kansas. In addition to our undergraduate program, we offer graduate degrees in fields related to experimental psychology, educational psychology, school psychology, and clinical psychology. We are an in-person program targeting both traditional and nontraditional students.

This position may be offered as a tenure-track, multi-year contract (non-tenure track up to three years), or non-tenure-track appointment, with consideration of factors including, but not limited to, academic program needs, the authority of Emporia State University, the qualifications of candidates, and consideration of the interests of candidates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The position emphasizes teaching and training of psychology undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities include:
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the psychology program
  • Courses may include those focused on Research Methods, Statistics, and the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Courses are in-person, on campus.
  • Summer teaching of online and/or in-person courses is available, with additional pay.
  • Opportunity to develop new elective courses, in areas of interest or expertise is also a possibility.
  • Academic advising of experimental psychology graduate students in your research area.
  • Research in one’s field of expertise, publishing, and staying current in areas of expertise.
  • Performing service activities for the psychology programs, the university, and the profession.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Psychology or related field
  • Note: Will consider All But Dissertation (ABD). Preliminary examinations must have been completed and advisor verifies that research is on track to be completed within one year.
  • Passionate about teaching undergraduate and graduate students .
  • Willingness to collaborate with other program faculty in continuous improvement efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Record of university teaching excellence.
  • Area of experience not represented in the program that complements current faculty interests (e.g. Development, Aging, Judgement and Decision-Making, Psycholinguistics & Language, Social/Personality, Health Psychology, Consumer/Business Psychology, Legal or Forensic, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, etc.).

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary: $48,148.00 – $58,000.00 annually
  • Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
