Description

Southern Illinois University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track faculty position to start August 11, 2026 in English Education, jointly appointed between the School of Education and the College of Liberal Arts. The successful candidate will contribute to both teacher preparation and English instruction, supporting students pursuing degrees in secondary English education. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate across disciplines to prepare future teachers who are knowledgeable, reflective, and responsive to the diverse needs of today’s classrooms.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Examples of Duties

  1. Teach face-to-face undergraduate courses in English Education and English (e.g., methods of teaching English, literature, writing, and language arts).
  2. Serve as the English Education program coordinator.
  3. Supervise and mentor teacher candidates in field experiences and student teaching placements.
  4. Collaborate with faculty in the School of Education and the School of Literature, Writing, & Digital Humanities to support curriculum development and program assessment.
  5. Participate in school, college, and university service as appropriate.
  6. Engage in ongoing professional development

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in English or English Education from an accredited institution.
  2. A minimum of three years of successful secondary-level teaching experience in English/Language Arts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience teaching at the college or university level.
  2. Evidence of effective collaboration with K-12 schools and/or teacher education programs.
  3. Experience with program assessment and evaluation.
  4. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
