FOCUS: Criminal Justice and Sociology

DEPARTMENT: School of Professional Studies

STARTING DATE: August 2026

SALARY: Competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications; excellent benefits package. Nine-month contract. Possible opportunity for compensated summer teaching.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach a 12-hour load per semester of on campus and online undergraduate criminal justice and/or sociology courses as assigned;
  • Advise and mentor students;
  • Provide service to the College and actively participate in campus life on the main campus in Peru, NE;
  • Demonstrate active professional development and contribution to the academic discipline;
  • Pursue continuous improvement of instructional practices;
  • Implement student engagement practices in and outside the traditional classroom;
  • Work effectively with a diverse student population, many of whom are first-generation college students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred: Terminal degree in criminal justice, sociology, or a related area. Professional experience in criminal justice or law enforcement.

Required: Master’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, or a related area, with a minimum of 15 hours of graduate coursework in criminal justice or sociology; online and classroom teaching experience; and experience and/or interest in increasing student success and engagement, particularly of underrepresented students. Candidates with a master’s degree and significant professional experience may be considered for an instructor level position. Completion of a terminal degree is required for a tenure track position.
