Posting Summary
Rutgers University School of Health Professions (SHP) is seeking a Chair for the Department of Clinical and Preventive Nutrition Sciences (DCPNS). SHP is the largest school of health professions in the nation with over 25 academic programs ranging from certificate to doctorate across the health care landscape. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Health Professions (SHP), The Department of Clinical and Preventive Nutrition Sciences (DCPNS) Chair is responsible for education, research, and administrative leadership of the department, inclusive of the Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition-for Aspiring Dietitians and the Doctor of Clinical Nutrition Programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and administration of the department, including budgeting, oversight of expenditures, personnel, facilities planning, resource allocation, academic and program planning, and policy implementation.
- Oversees the operation of departmental academic programs, including the maintenance of applicable accreditations.
- Reviews the budget, program, and departmental plans, and ensures ongoing communication with the members of the department.
- Provides supervision of program directors, faculty, and staff, including workload assignments, and conducts the annual evaluations.
- Makes recommendations regarding appointments, reappointments, promotions, leaves, dismissals, and acceptance of resignations of faculty and staff in accordance with the policies and procedures of the University and School.
- Offers mentorship and support for faculty professional development, research, and scholarly productivity, including establishing annual goals and objectives for individual faculty members.
- Develops department strategic and operational plans.
- Conducts an annual review of the department’s educational, research/scholarship, and service activities, and submits an annual report of accomplishments to the Dean.
- In conjunction with the Vice Chair of Research, oversees faculty and student research to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures regarding research.
- Participates in graduate student research advisement.
- Participates in departmental student disciplinary actions in accordance with university and school policies.
- Fosters collaborations within the School, Rutgers Health, the University, and national and international partners.
- Engages in research, grant writing, publications, presentations, and other scholarly activities on a national and international level.
- Oversees all clinical operations within the department.
- Participates in graduate course development, teaching, and interprofessional education.
- Teaches academic courses at a level of workload consistent with (or takes into account) all other duties.
- Develops strategies for Departmental publicity, websites, articles, and promotional materials.
- Serves on university, school, and department committees as needed.
- Participates and provides leadership on professional committees, professional organizations or editorial boards, on a national and/or international level.
- Makes recommendations to the Dean regarding related course and program offerings and all other issues of concern to the department.
- Oversees scheduling of classes, sequencing of courses, and scheduling of faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff.
- Oversees and approves payment of adjunct faculty and work study students.
- Represents department and is a liaison to other departments, schools, and bodies.
- Performs other duties assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Education and Experience
The Chair of the Department of Clinical and Preventive Nutrition Sciences must hold a doctoral degree related to clinical nutrition or nutrition research and hold the registered dietitian/nutritionist credential with prior clinical practice experience. Candidates are expected to hold the rank of Associate or Full Professor and demonstrate a sustained record of research productivity, including grantsmanship. Additional requirements include experience with program accreditation, excellence in teaching, and a demonstrated record of effective academic leadership.Special Instructions to Applicants
