Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Associate Vice President & Chief of Staff for CLA. The Associate Vice President & Chief of Staff (AVP-CoS) serves as the principal executive partner and senior staff officer to the Senior Vice President and Superintendent of the Cadet Leadership Academy (CLA). The AVP-CoS provides strategic oversight and executive management by translating senior-leader intent into synchronized execution across the CLA enterprise while protecting the Superintendent’s decision bandwidth. Acting as the Superintendent’s executive agent, the AVP-CoS ensures unity of effort, institutional alignment, and sustained execution of the CLA Campaign Plan and the Deliver the Corps of the future strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Executive Integration & Decision Support: Serves as the Superintendent’s principal staff integrator and executive agent, directing staff action on the Superintendent’s behalf and preparing decision-quality briefs and papers that frame options, risks, and second-order effects for senior-leader decision-making.
  • Strategic Planning & Campaign Execution: Leads the development, execution, and continuous assessment of the CLA Campaign Plan across four Lines of Effort: (1) Grow the Corps to 1,000 cadets, (2) Build the Cadet Leadership Academy, (3) Fit to Fight Holistic Health and Fitness, and (4) the 48-Month Curated Cadet Leadership Experience.
  • Enterprise Oversight & Unity of Effort: Provides executive oversight of Plans, Programs, and Operations; Military Programs; and Cadet Career Success to ensure unity of effort and resolve cross-functional priorities and friction across the CLA enterprise.
  • Executive Representation & Policy Coordination (5%): Represents the Superintendent on directed policy development and coordination actions at the senior leadership and Cabinet level.
  • Governance, Resource Stewardship, and Institutional Safeguards: Aligns resources with the CLA Campaign Plan while safeguarding institutional, fiscal, and reputational interests; ensures effective governance and stewardship of state, federal, and private funds in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and institutional priorities.
  • Institutional & External Alignment: Represents the Superintendent on directed policy and coordination matters; ensures CLA messaging and initiatives are aligned across UNG and with external partners, including the U.S. Army, ROTC, sister Senior Military Colleges, alumni, donors, and industry and defense stakeholders.
  • Innovation & Future Capability Development: Oversees the integration of emerging and innovative programs that advance cadet readiness, leader development, and the future capabilities of the Corps.
  • Perform other Duties Assigned: Executes additional responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent in support of strategic initiatives and institutional objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have a basic understanding of Army commissioning programs, an excellent understanding of Army ROTC, and superior knowledge of the Army officer profession.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, oral and written communication skills, time and project management skills, and leadership skills.
  • Team player with a collaborative instinct; multi-tasker; adaptive in a fluid environment; creative.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a military, strategic, or national security discipline.
  • Minimum of 20 years of active Army officer experience.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
