The Associate Dean of Health Science and Nursing serves as a senior academic and administrative leader at Western Wyoming Community College. This position provides leadership and oversight for Health Science and Nursing programs, with primary responsibility for the direction, quality, accreditation, and regulatory compliance of the Nursing Program, serving as the Nursing Program Director as required by state and accrediting bodies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE
I. Academic, Program, and Regulatory Leadership (Nursing Program Director)
1. Provides overall leadership and administrative oversight for the Nursing Program(s), including Associate Degree Nursing, Practical Nursing, Nursing Assistant, and related health programs as assigned.
2. Ensures compliance with all requirements of the Wyoming State Board of Nursing, accreditation agencies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
3. Leads curriculum planning, development, evaluation, and continuous improvement in alignment with accreditation standards, workforce needs, and institutional priorities.
4. Oversees preparation, submission, and maintenance of all accreditation, regulatory, assessment, and reporting documentation related to nursing education.
5. Supervises, evaluates, and supports full-time, part-time, adjunct, and clinical nursing faculty in accordance with College policies and the Faculty Evaluation Plan.
6. Coordinates clinical education, work-based learning, and employer-embedded instructional experiences through partnerships with healthcare providers and community agencies.
7. Oversees nursing program budgets, equipment, facilities, and instructional resources.
8. Collaborates with outreach locations to ensure consistent quality and compliance in off-campus nursing instruction.
9. Leads ongoing assessment of student learning, licensure outcomes, and program effectiveness.
II. School and Academic Leadership (Associate Dean Responsibilities)
1. Provides leadership and administrative oversight for the School of Health Science and Nursing in alignment with College mission, strategic goals, and academic priorities.
2. Works collaboratively with faculty, program coordinators, and college leadership to support shared governance, curriculum development, and program review.
3. Supports faculty recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development.
4. Collaborates with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and other academic leaders on scheduling, staffing, resource allocation, and academic planning.
5. Represents the School on college-wide committees, accreditation activities, and strategic initiatives as assigned.
6. Promotes innovation in teaching and learning, including the integration of technology, simulation, active learning, and inclusive instructional practices.
7. Leads, supervises, and evaluates assigned faculty and staff.
III. Workforce, Industry, and Community Engagement
1. Collaborates with healthcare systems, business and industry partners, advisory committees, and community organizations to ensure programs align with current and emerging workforce needs.
2. Supports the development of work-based learning, clinical placements, and employer-driven instructional opportunities.
3. Analyzes regional, state, and national healthcare and workforce trends to inform program development, revision, and long-range planning.
4. Supports outreach and workforce education initiatives to expand access to Health Science and Nursing programs across the College’s service area.
5. Represents the College and School to external agencies, professional organizations, and community partners.
IV. Budget, Data, and Strategic Planning
1. Participates in the development, management, and monitoring of School and program budgets.
2. Uses enrollment, completion, licensure, labor market, and student success data to guide evidence-based academic and staffing decisions.
3. Collaborates with institutional research and academic leadership to forecast program demand and workforce needs.
4. Prepares administrative reports and documentation as required.
V. Grant Development and Resource Advancement
1. Actively participates in grant prospecting, authoring, editing, implementation, evaluation, and reporting.
2. Collaborates with faculty, college leadership, and external partners to secure and manage external funding that supports academic innovation, workforce responsiveness, faculty development, and student success.
3. Supports sustainability and responsible stewardship of grant-funded initiatives.
VI. Teaching and Student Engagement
1. Provides high-quality classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction in assigned courses.
2. Teaching load is adjusted to reflect administrative responsibilities and institutional needs.
3. Advises and mentors students regarding academic progression, licensure requirements, and career pathways.
4. Supports student success initiatives related to retention, persistence, completion, and licensure outcomes.
VII. Equity, Professionalism, and Institutional Leadership
1. Promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion through leadership practices related to hiring, evaluation, scheduling, curriculum development, and student engagement.
2. Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, innovation, collaboration, and institutional commitment.
3. Maintains current professional licensure and ongoing professional development.
4. Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience)
- Master’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Wyoming
- Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience, including clinical practice
- Minimum of two (2) years of college-level teaching experience
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in nursing education or healthcare
- Knowledge of nursing accreditation, curriculum, and regulatory standards
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Must pass a pre employment criminal background check and drug screening test
Equivalency Statement
For those candidates who do not exactly meet all minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience serving as a Nursing Program Director or Associate Director
- Experience with accreditation and regulatory reporting
- Recent clinical nursing practice
- Experience in community college or rural higher education settings
- Experience with grant development and management
