Description
Vincennes University seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (SEM). Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean serves as the senior leader responsible for the overall accountability of academic programming, curriculum development, accreditation, assessment of student learning, and faculty oversight. Leading a diverse portfolio of Associate and Bachelor’s degree programs, ranging from Biology, Chemistry, and Geoscience to Engineering and Mathematics. The Dean will oversee day-to-day operations while championing the College’s signature small class sizes, the state-of-the-art Updike Hall SEM Learning Lab, and high-impact transfer partnerships with institutions like Purdue University and the University of Evansville. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to VU’s mission and workforce development initiatives, bringing experience in academic leadership to a complex environment that requires sound, flexible, and creative decision-making. With exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, the Dean will cultivate a culture of care and excellence, supporting faculty growth and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to advance the College’s strategic goals and statewide impact.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities:
Administrative Oversight: Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the College, including administrative processes, resource allocation, budget oversight, personnel accreditation, and performance management.
Strategic Leadership: Provide leadership for ongoing and new initiatives related to college degree programs, academic affairs, such as curriculum development, program recruitment, program review, accreditation processes, and strategic planning.
University Representation: Represent the College in relevant university, college, or departmental committee meetings (e.g., Curriculum Committee, Assessment Committee, Faculty Senate meetings) to ensure effective participation in shared governance and decision-making.
Policy Implementation: Ensure the effective implementation of University and College policies and procedures, and contribute to their review and development as needed.
Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize data for informed decision-making regarding academic programs, student success, faculty affairs, and operational efficiency.
Faculty and Staff Support: Provide guidance and support to faculty and staff within the College, fostering a productive and collaborative environment. This includes the team member recruitment, retention, professional development, and promotion as applicable.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost that are consistent with the responsibilities of a university Dean.
The preferred candidate will have/be:
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of academic program development and evaluation, adult principles and practices, and curriculum development.
- An active, energetic, and well-organized personality with a sense of humor and collegiality, creating a culture of care and a climate of inclusiveness.
- A leadership philosophy that emphasizes an environment of accountability and open communication. Strong decision-making skills that demonstrate a sense of fairness, sensitivity, compassion, and objectivity. Personal and professional integrity to the highest degree.
- Industry experience in a discipline offered by the College of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics.
* Education: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in science, engineering, mathematics, or related field required. Doctorate preferred.
- Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in academic or industry leadership.
- Teaching Experience: Minimum of 5 years of college teaching experience, preferably in a Science, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline.
Terms of Employment:
This position requires flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the College, including travel, evening, and weekend events.
Salary:
Commensurate with qualifications.

July, 1st 2026
