Basic Function
Full-time, 9-month tenure track (Ph.D required) or 9-month non-tenure track (Master of Science required) faculty position. Wilmington College is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Agriculture in Agricultural Sciences on our main campus in Wilmington to begin August 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Represent the college professionally in all interactions
- Possess innovative teaching and faculty committed to engaging pedagogies
- Collaborative and interdisciplinary endeavors
- Provide hands on experiences to our students on our academic farm
- Adhere at all times to the policies and procedures of the program and the college
- Fulfill all teaching assignments, while maintaining a safe, healthy, and positive learning environment:
- Courses to be taught include but are not limited to:
- Exploring Agriculture
- Computer Applications in Agriculture
- Pathways in Agriculture
- Intro to Food Science
- Crop and Animal Production I & II
- Agricultural Economis
- Agricultural Mechanics and Lab Management
- Courses to be taught include but are not limited to:
- Provide effective student advisement on academic career plan
- Maintains an open-door policy to best serve the needs of the students
- Provide faculty supervision, mentoring, and guidance as needed
- Participate as a full member of the faculty for the program/college
- Actively participate in scholarship by engaging in continuing education opportunities, pursuing research possibilities,presenting at professional workshops and conferences, etc.
- Respond positively and effectively to supervision
- Collaborate effectively with the AG faculty, administration, college board, college faculty, and staff to assure the best possible educational experience for all students
- Participates as a full member of the faculty for the program/college
- Actively participate in all assigned teams, meetings, committees, etc.
- Engage in college, professional, and community service opportunities
- Engage in community out-reach and advocate for the AG profession at every opportunity
- Advise and coordinate all agricultural education placement and observation hours
- Successfully complete all other duties as assigned
Performance Standards:
1. Meets objectives in a timely and effective manner and strives to fulfill the college’s strategic agenda.
2. Coordinates effectively with other AG faculty and staff and with other college departments/employees.
3. Strives for excellence in the performance of responsibilities and in meeting the needs of students served.
4. Knows and observes college and departmental policies, guidelines and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Master of Science degree for non-tenure track, or Ph.D. for tenure track, in Agricultural and Extension Education, Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership, Crop and Soil Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Business or closely related field.
- Experience must include:
- US Farm Experience
- Evidence of scholarship (application, teaching and learning, etc.)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post-secondary level
