Job Description

The Department of Social Work at Ohio University invites applications for one nine-month Assistant Professor of Instruction (non-tenure track) position that reports to the Chair of the Department of Social Work. The Department of Social Work has an undergraduate social work program, as well as an MSW program that is offered in-person and online. Our MSW program focuses on rural social work and clinical practice. The social work programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Responsibilities include teaching across the curriculum including undergraduate and graduate courses, with an emphasis on in-person field courses on the Athens Campus. An Assistant Professor of Instruction will teach four courses per semester, with the possibility of summer teaching opportunities. Additionally, this candidate will be expected to advise/mentor social work students and engage in service to the department, college, university and profession. Candidates may also be considered for the Graduate Field Director role, which involves managing field education programming for the Athens Graduate program, identifying and vetting practicum sites, and orienting and placing Graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Master of Social Work from an accredited program by the start date of appointment.
  • At least two years of post-MSW practice experience
  • Licensed social worker in Ohio or eligible to be licensed at any level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in social work (PhD or DSW) or closely related field
  • Demonstrated proficiency with online course development/delivery
  • Experience with supervising students in an agency setting/field education
  • Licensed Independent Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Social work practice/teaching experience in rural areas
  • Knowledge of CSWE accreditation requirements
  • Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and community partners
