COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
POSITION: Assistant Professor of Computer Science
Our department is made up of faculty and staff who are dedicated to building strong bonds with our students. We work one-on-one with students on diverse topics and often engage with student organizations in planning community events and tech talks.
This is a full-time, 9-month position beginning in August 2025.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field is required by the time the position begins (by August 2025). All-but-dissertation (ABD) candidates will be considered if the degree is close to completion. Candidates must have strong communications skills and demonstrate the ability to engage undergraduate students. Preferred candidates will have teaching experience beyond typical TA responsibilities and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups as well as an active scholarly agenda.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The annual teaching load includes five regular courses and one student-centered immersive experience (equivalent to one course) as a part of the University’s experiential, contemporary, and integrative learning initiative – Hatter Ready. The successful candidate should be able to teach any of the courses in our introductory sequence, as well as upper-division courses based on the candidate’s expertise. The ability to contribute to Stetson’s unique Cybersecurity program is desirable. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate students participating in their year-long Senior Research Project, student advising, and university service. THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers undergraduate degrees including Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, and Cybersecurity (https://www.stetson.edu/other/academics/programs.php#undergrad). Our department is dynamic and engaged; faculty have close connections to the students due to our small class sizes and individual senior research mentorship. Our students and professors routinely publish papers together and attend conferences. The department has hosted hackathons, high school programming contests, and has an active computer science club. Alumni commonly visit our department and give talks about their lives after college or in graduate school. Our department offices and most of our teaching classrooms are located in a beautiful 120-year-old brick building with a rich history.
THE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES:
Stetson’s College of Arts and Sciences (http://www.stetson.edu/portal/artsci/) is the largest and most diverse of the University’s colleges and schools; it includes the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, education, and creative arts.
