Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The position works in collaboration with college leadership to develops course content for the Practical AI and Intelligent Automation program. Primary responsibilities include curriculum development in alignment with input from the college leadership and the industry advisory committee. Once curriculum is developed, the position includes instructional responsibilities that require a strong skill set in using AI and Intelligent Automation in practical, real world scenarios common in private business. The position requires the ability to teach students effectively in an online and face-to-face instructional environment. This position is a member of the full-time instructional staff.

Educational Requirements for the PositionMaster’s degree or higher in the teaching discipline;

or: Master’s degree in any discipline, with 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline;

or: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in the teaching discipline;

or: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with 12 undergraduate hours in the teaching discipline or related field;

or: Hold an Associate’s degree in the teaching discipline PLUS have 3 years of relevant full-time work experience.

Experience Required for the Position

Relevant professional experience in the field required to design and assess program goals and student outcomes. Demonstrates teaching experience in practical use of AI/Intelligent Automation or related field within a post-secondary institution or professional setting required to develop and deliver course content. Experience with alternate instructional delivery systems and learning management systems.

Other Requirements for the Position

The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience/skills in the following.Curriculum development and delivery. Pedagogical practices and instructional materials for various student populations. Various teaching modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid). Instructional support materials such as syllabi, media, etc. Curriculum review and updates with changing industry standards. Assessment of student learning outcomes.

Sam Houston State University (known as SHSU or Sam) was founded in 1879 and is the third oldest public institution of higher learning in the State of Texas. It is located 70 miles north of Houston in the hills, lakes, and forests region of East Texas in Huntsville. It is one of the oldest purpose-built institutions for the instruction of teachers west of the Mississippi River and the first such institution of its type in Texas. The school is named for one of Texas's founding fathers, Sam Houston, who made his home in the city.
