The School of Art at Louisiana State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a focus in Painting and Drawing, and the skills and ability to work with students in a wide range of techniques including representational and conceptual approaches to painting. The position begins August 2025.The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach painting and drawing studio courses in the BA, BFA and MFA programs. Painting and drawing courses attract students from across the School of Art. Courses may include introductory classes with a focus on technique, to more advanced topics informed by the candidate’s practice and interests. Faculty also serve as mentors and teachers for painting and drawing MFA students, as well as graduate students working in disciplines across School of Art. In addition to teaching a range of drawing and painting courses, the faculty member will participate in department activities, including committee work and faculty meetings.We seek an artist with a developing or established exhibition and professional art record. This artist should possess a working knowledge of a wide range of traditional materials and techniques, as well as new developments within the fields of painting and drawing. We seek candidates with a developed pedagogy and teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant level. Candidates with an MFA as their terminal degree are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach 2 or 3 courses per semester at the undergraduate and the graduate level, where needed.
  • Serve on MFA graduate committees
  • Participate in curriculum and program development and keep content current
  • Commit to continuing professional development.
  • Maintain an active professional art presence.
  • Engage with the broader artistic, scholarly, and professional communities.
  • Provide service to the school, college, university, profession, and community.

Required Qualifications

  • MFA or other terminal degree in painting, drawing, fine arts, or related studio fine arts.
  • Prior teaching experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching studio courses with a focus on painting and drawing.
  • A significant record of professional achievements and commitment to advancing research/creative activities appropriate to the discipline.
