Iowa State University of Science and Technology, a national leader among student-centric research universities, invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of the Ivy College of Business. The successful candidate will hold the David and Ellen Raisbeck Endowed Deanship, a $6.2 million endowment of which the proceeds are used solely to support the dean’s priorities for the college.

Established in 1984, the Ivy College of Business is accredited by AACSB International and includes academic departments of accounting, finance, information systems and business analytics, management and entrepreneurship, marketing, and supply chain management. The college’s mission is to conduct and share research to educate tomorrow’s business leaders and to prepare them to successfully address multi-disciplinary, global, technological, ethical, and business challenges. The official fall 2024 enrollment for the Ivy College consists of 4,722 undergraduate and 475 graduate students whose college home is the Gerdin Business Building. This state-of-the-art building provides an environment where students and faculty replicate real-world situations in areas such as securities trading, management information systems, market research, and entrepreneurship. The college has been instrumental in developing interdisciplinary programs across the university, received national recognition for many of its business programs, leads the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, and is home to the state’s Small Business Development Centers. The Dean will be responsible for providing a creative interdisciplinary focus to the college that reflects and complements the science and technology strengths of Iowa State University. The Dean will also lead the college to greater national and international academic prominence while fully integrating the university’s missions of research, teaching, service and outreach.

Candidates must have a graduate or professional degree and a distinguished record of accomplishment in higher education, business practice, or public service commensurate with the expectations of appointment as a tenured full professor in the Ivy College of Business.

The preferred candidate will have proven leadership experience; the ability to develop and foster strong relationships with students, faculty and staff, and business and industry leaders; the skills to facilitate and communicate a vision internally and externally regarding the college’s contribution to the overarching mission of a land-grant university; a record of success in fundraising or the skills necessary to be successful in fundraising; experience in performing business related research as applied within academia or industry; a commitment to supporting and growing the college’s academic research profile; a commitment to leading and growing innovation and entrepreneurship programs across the university through collaborations with colleges, centers and industry partners; an enthusiastic leadership style that will inspire students, staff, faculty, alumni and corporate partners; a demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive work environment; a demonstrated commitment to furthering student success; and expertise to guide organizational development and to creatively address issues on the forefront of business education and research.

Iowa State University has retained the services of Buffkin / Baker to assist with this search. The position start date is July 1, 2025. Although the search will remain open until the position is filled, preliminary screening of potential candidates will begin January 7, 2025.
