The English Program at the University of West Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, specializing in Professional and Technical Writing, with a secondary specialization in American Literature. The appointment will begin August 1, 2025. Review of applications will begin on January 15, 2025 and continue until the position is filled.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in professional and technical writing and American literature.
- Develop and maintain an active research agenda in your areas of specialization.
- Contribute to curriculum development, specifically by designing courses to support our expanding professional and technical writing offerings at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Participate in departmental, college, university service and program assessment
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.
- Evidence of an active research agenda and potential for scholarly publication.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds.

The English Program resides with the School of Humanities, itself housed in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. The English Program offers a BA in English (including a Secondary Education track), a newly redesigned MA in English, and an certificate in Publishing and Editing. The program also offers minors in Creative Writing and Literature while playing a central role in interdisciplinary minors including Film Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Africana Studies. English is an institutional leader in the area of undergraduate research, with faculty mentoring numerous student projects each year and supporting the publication of our student-led research journal, Literary Undergraduate Research in English (LURe). This position will build on the program’s strengths in literary history and criticism, pedagogy, film, and creative writing to expand our offerings in technical and professional writing.
