Benefits

Nine-month, full-time, non-tenure track, special appointment position. Minimum starting salary $46,100 (Bachelors) OR $47,100 (Masters), based on experience and education.

Position Description & Details

Bismarck State College is seeking a dedicated and passionate Instructor of Practice – Agriculture to join our faculty. The successful candidate will support student success by teaching courses in Agriculture, Technology, and Natural Resources. This role involves a commitment to excellence in teaching, student mentoring, and active participation in campus activities and industry engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Instruction:
    • Deliver high-quality instruction in Agriculture, Technology, and Natural Resources courses.
    • Develop and update curriculum to ensure course content is current and relevant.
    • Employ innovative teaching strategies to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Student Support and Mentorship:
    • Provide academic advising and mentoring to students.
    • Support student retention initiatives through proactive engagement and guidance.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
    • Submit assessments and grades by established deadlines.
    • Participate in departmental and campus committee meetings.
  • Industry and Community Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain partnerships with industry professionals and organizations.
    • Collaborate with industry partners to ensure curriculum alignment with industry standards and needs.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Participate in professional development activities to stay current in the field.
    • Undertake other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Academic Division Dean.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Continuously – 66-100% – Use hands dexterously, talk or hear.
  • Frequently – 34-65% – Stand, walk, or sit.
  • Occasionally – 1-33% – Reach with hands and arms, stoop/kneel/crouch, crawl, climb or balance, or lift to 25 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an agriculture-related field or an appropriate combination of education and professional experience with an agreement to complete a master’s degree.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good computer software skills – Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Teams, etc., Outlook E-mail and Calendar, and strong Internet familiarity.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • Will be required to obtain North Dakota State Board for Career and Technical Education certification (up to six years to obtain and training is provided).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postsecondary teaching experience.
  • Curriculum development, teaching, and/or training experience.
  • Experience with hands-on teaching methods.
  • Industry-related certifications.
  • Appropriate doctoral degree.
