The visitor will also benefit from Kenyon students’ passionate interest in the humanities and strengthen their credentials with a year of teaching at Kenyon. Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching and a Ph.D. in hand or be near completion by the beginning of the appointment.
How to apply
Applications should include a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three professional references. Candidates advancing to the interview stage will be asked to submit a statement of teaching philosophy that addresses pedagogical inclusion of a diverse student population and an unofficial graduate school transcript. To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at http://careers.kenyon.edu. Review of applications will begin on Feb. 1 and continue until the position is filled. Candidates submitting materials by Feb. 1 will be guaranteed full consideration.
Efforts to attract a diverse candidate pool include advertising in multiple well-known and accessible venues and describing the position very broadly. Areas of geographic, chronological, and thematic expertise can span the entire history of Africa and its relations with other regions, and we expect to attract a large number of applicants with a variety of personal backgrounds and experiences. In our emails to graduate programs and scholars, we will also ask people to share our announcement widely, in order to reach many different candidates.
