The Department of Education at West Texas A&M University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Counseling for the Fall of 2025. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with the faculty of the Counseling program and teach two or more of the eight CACREP core areas in our 100% online program.

Work Performed: 

This is a full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will teach a 3-3 course load of 9 credit hours per semester and be available for teaching in the summer as needed. The teaching load will consist of teaching graduate-level courses in the Counseling (M.A.) and the School Counseling (M.Ed.) programs. Other responsibilities include advising M.A. and M.Ed. students, maintaining an active research agenda that results in peer-reviewed publications, participating in departmental, college, and university service, and other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications: 

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education by August 2025 (we will consider applicants who are ABD)
  • Minimum three years of experience as a certified School Counselor
  • Texas state licensure as Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or eligible
  • Evidenced scholarly activity or scholarly agenda in the field of Counseling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Counseling from a CACREP accredited program
  • Specialized training in Counseling curriculum and online instruction development
  • Experience teaching graduate courses in educator preparation course in Counseling in a higher education setting (i.e., university or community college)
  • Experience monitoring and coordinating undergraduate or graduate Counseling programs
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience in Grades EC-12
  • Qualified or experience as a field supervisor to observe candidates, monitor performance, and provide constructive feedback to improved teaching effectiveness
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a practicing Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Experience supervising Counseling interns
