Job Description
Xavier University’s Department of Social Work invites applications for a Teaching Professor / Field Director position to begin Fall Semester 2025. The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program at Xavier has been continuously accredited for over 40 years. The Social Work Department is located in the College of Professional Sciences and is in the process of applying to add an MSW to its program.
This position is responsible for administering the field education component of the BSW program. This 9-month position includes both teaching and administrative duties. The Field Director receives a course release for administering field (finding practicum sites and placing students), and is responsible for teaching the field seminar and additional courses. This position is considered a Community Engaged Early Career faculty member.
The Teaching Professor position is renewable on a yearly basis, with the potential after six years for promotion to Senior Teaching Professor with a rolling two-year renewable contract. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Required Qualifications:
- A master’s social work degree from a CSWE-accredited program (or a CASWE-accredited degree recognized through an MOU with CSWE, or an ISWDRES-evaluated degree;
- At least two (2) years of post-master’s social work degree practice experience in social work;
- Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team;
- Passion for exciting and motivating students from diverse backgrounds;
- Contribution to a campus climate that supports equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with social work field education (administration, teaching, serving as a practicum supervisor)
- Administrative experience (supervising students or staff, administering programs)
- Experience teaching at the college level
- Understanding of CSWE accreditation
Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring practicum placements for BSW level students
- Identifying and vetting practicum sites
- Providing orientation and training to practicum supervisors
- Evaluating practicum supervisors and settings
- Orient and place BSW students
- Monitor, support, and evaluate student learning
- Providing academic and professional advising to students
- Teach practicum seminar and an additional course in the program
- Assist in re-accreditation
Position: Nine-month faculty contract with summer teaching opportunities
Salary/Rank: Teaching professor (non-tenure track) with salary commensurate to qualifications and experience.
