Austin Peay State University School of Nursing invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position. We are searching for qualified applicants in Med Surg, Acute care, and speciality areas of nursing.
Austin Peay State University is located just 40 miles north of Nashville. This program is highly competitive and was recently ranked among the top 100 nursing programs for value. BSN graduates consistently have exceptional NCLEX pass rates, well above national average. The program is proud of its facilities with state of the art classroom and simulation labs. Online teaching includes the MSN program and RN to BSN courses. The RN to BSN program is growing and expanding to meet the needs of the community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Work within established University workload guidelines.
- Demonstrate ability in teaching to varied learning styles.
- Demonstrate effective communication with students, peers, staff and clinical partners.
- Actively seek out opportunities to become a member of University as well School committees and assigned projects.
- Support the theoretical foundation of nursing science through presentations, publishing articles, or grant writing.
- Be willing to teach in a variety of area including on or off campus and on line.
- Clinical teaching responsibilities include day and/or night hours, weekday and/or weekends.
- Evidenced-based knowledge of area of discipline to be taught.
- Commitment to innovative and effective teaching.
- Assessment and grading of student work.
- Willingness and ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally through oral and written communications.
- Commitment to university and department mission.
- Use of relevant technology for teaching and communication.
- Hold office hours, every week which include participation in academic advising, and attendance in departmental and university meetings as requested or required.
- Maintain an active program of professional development,
- Provide service to department, university, local health committees and the profession.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Candidate must hold a minimum of a MSN degree.
- Doctorate degrees preferred. The candidate should know that the doctoral degree is required to meet criteria for tenure and/or promotion.
- The candidate must hold an unencumbered TN RN License.
- Successful experience in teaching and scholarly activity in the area of mental health preferred.
- A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
