Friends University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Division of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to teach in and help to lead and develop our ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program. The ideal candidate will be able to teach a wide variety of topics in engineering coursework, with the ability to incorporate the teaching of labs for some courses. This position is a special appointment, nine-month faculty position that is eligible to be renewed on a yearly basis. The position reports to the Division Chair of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The candidate must hold a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Prior university-level teaching experience or a significant amount of industry experience is strongly preferred.

Expectations & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach classes in engineering. Classes will be assigned based on the faculty member’s academic and professional qualifications in accordance with accreditation standards.

Additional duties include:

  • Help to provide administrative oversight of the Mechanical Engineering program
  • Participation in recruitment of prospective students
  • University committee assignments
  • Student advising
  • Networking and outreach
  • Assist with the ABET accreditation process
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • The successful candidate will hold, at a minimum, a Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference will be given to individuals who have university-level teaching experience and/or a significant amount of industry experience.
