Description
The DePerro School of Health Professions at St. Bonaventure University invites applications for the full-time position of Clinical Assistant Professor in the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (M.S. SLP) distance education program. This 100% remote position requires a dedicated and experienced speech-language pathologist with a strong commitment to student success and desire to work in a collaborative environment. Primary responsibilities of this position include supporting the Director of Clinical Education in clinical course development and instruction, supervision of clinical experiences, individual/small group mentorship, evaluation of student clinical skills, and clinical documentation/reporting functions.

Examples of Duties
The faculty member will teach courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and following the approved course descriptions and curricular guidelines established by the Faculty and approved by the Dean and the Provost. Non-teaching assignments will include instructional development; academic advising and assisting students; participating in Departmental and University-wide activities; serving on committees and task forces; and other appropriate responsibilities as described in the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook.

SCHEDULE: This is an appointed faculty position as governed by the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook. Days, occasional evening or weekend hours as required.

In accordance the Faculty Status and Welfare Handbook:

Instructional:

  • Teaching, including the preparation of course syllabi and classes, the preparation and grading of examinations, the supervision of laboratories and other practica, and the direction of theses, honor projects, and independent study work.
  • The maximum instructional load for teaching faculty during the academic year is:
  • Nine (9) credit hours in each of the fall and spring semesters for each person holding the rank of Professor.
  • Twelve (12) credit hours in each of the Fall and Spring semesters for all persons holding the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor.

Academic Advising:

  • Post and observe office hours for purposes of academic advising and student consultation. Meet with students as needed by appointment.
  • Advise and assist students during the ongoing registration process.
  • Maintain general knowledge of degree requirements, programs and course transfer information.

Institutional Service:

  • Participation in activities (usually through committee work) designed to advance the mission and quality of the University, School, and Departmental programs. Assignments to routine committee work will be made in consideration of remote role and other demands placed on the faculty member by the University.
  • On-site attendance if needed for accreditation-related activities

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Maintain a program of personal and professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge and competence in the appropriate academic disciplines.
  • Professional activity within one’s field of specialization or otherwise directed towards the University’s mission.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Additional duties as assigned by the Provost and/or the Dean.
Typical Qualifications
Education:

  • Master’s degree leading to licensure in Speech-Language Pathology
  • PhD or EdD in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field

Years of Experience 

  • Minimum of 10 years of full-time experience in clinical settings (school-based preferred)
  • Minimum of 1 year of full-time experience in higher education graduate SLP education and/or clinical supervision

Certification and/or Licensure

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology
  • SLP licensure in state of residence & eligibility for SLP licensure in New York

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong foundational knowledge in the clinical practice of speech-language pathology
  • Experience in clinical education of SLP graduate students
  • Leadership experience in the profession
  • Professional development participation through presentations and/or publications
  • Commitment to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in SLP graduate education
