Department of Biology – Langston University
Nature of the Job
The Department of Biology at Langston University is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Biology Faculty Member to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of undergraduate courses, including Anatomy, Physiology, Zoology, and General Biology.
While the primary focus is on excellence in teaching, there is also an expectation that the candidate will engage in research and pursue external funding through grant proposals. This position presents an exciting opportunity for a scholar-educator to make a meaningful impact on our academic community.
Duties and Responsibilities
The faculty member will have a multifaceted role with key responsibilities in teaching, research, and service:
Teaching Responsibilities
- Instruct undergraduate courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Zoology, General Biology, and other biology-related areas as needed.
- Develop and refine curricula to ensure excellence in biological sciences education.
- Utilize innovative and effective teaching methods to enhance student learning outcomes.
Research Responsibilities
- Establish an independent research program aligned with the department’s strengths.
- Seek external funding through grant writing to support research initiatives.
- Mentor undergraduate students in research projects, fostering their academic and professional growth.
Service Responsibilities
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including:
- Accreditation processes
- Curriculum development
- Other administrative and academic responsibilities as required
Experience Required
- Ph.D. in Biology, Zoology, Anatomy, or a closely related field (must be completed by the employment start date).
- A demonstrated history of successful undergraduate teaching, with preference for experience in Anatomy, Zoology, and General Biology courses.
- Evidence of potential for establishing an independent research program.
Experience Desired
The ideal candidate will have:
- Postdoctoral research experience to further strengthen expertise.
- The ability to establish and manage a medium-scale mouse model facility.
- A proven record of securing external funding through grant proposals.
- Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and academic program enhancement.
- A background in mentoring undergraduate students through research projects.
- An interest in interdisciplinary collaborations that align with the department’s goals.
Special Requirements & Physical Considerations
This position requires:
- The ability to work in a laboratory setting, including standing for extended periods, occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds, and handling biological and chemical agents (with appropriate safety protocols in place).
- Classroom engagement, which may involve standing, writing on boards, and using digital presentation tools.
- Flexibility in adjusting research plans based on available resources and departmental priorities.
