MCCC/MTA Unit Position
Division of Liberal Studies
Campus Location: Lynn
SALARY: Anticipated starting salary is $57,013.00 – $62,000.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position is a full-time, tenure track faculty position in the English as a Second Language department which offers a variety of levels of ESL instruction. This faculty member will participate in the teaching, effective delivery, and further development and enhancement of the departmental offerings in addition to serving on college committees and advising students.
The successful candidate must have the ability to relate to a student population that is highly diverse in academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as physical and learning abilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan and implement instruction for intermediate and advanced ESL classes. Instruct other levels and skills of ESL, as needed.
- Participate in committees and support efforts in ESL on campus and in the wider community.
- Serve with other full-time ESL faculty as a resource person in the ESL Department for part-time faculty and for the college at large.
- Stay current in the field of TESOL.
- Assist in curriculum and program development, including program review.
- Participate in assessment and placement activities, including holistic scoring of writing samples, test validation, student learning outcome research.
- Initiate and/or participate in special projects and grants.
- Participate in Academic Advising.
- Attend required department and college meetings, and participate in general faculty functions related to the mission and vision of the College.
- Use the language lab system, the College-designated LMS, and other multimedia technology effectively to enhance classroom learning.
- Assignment may include day or evening hours and may include assignments in a lab or center as
- needed.
- Engage in professional development activities through participation in conferences, workshops,
- seminars, and professional associations to maintain excellence in discipline and in the classroom.
- Foster student success across the college’s diverse student body, and address equity gaps, through innovative teaching and learning approaches as well as curriculum development.

Job Requirements:
- An earned Master’s degree or higher in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL
- emphasis, Linguistics with a TESL emphasis from an accredited college or university
- Recent experience teaching EAP to adult immigrants of diverse cultural, linguistic, educational, and economic backgrounds in the community college setting
- Teaching experience in varied levels of ESL from basic skills through college-preparation
- courses, including writing.
- Experience with integrating multimedia language lab technology in instruction.
- Experience in evaluating students for course placement.
- Willingness to use LMS designated by the College.
- Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diversity of community college students,
- including but not limited to academic preparation, socioeconomic level, age, religion, ethnicity
- and culture, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability.
- Finalists may be required to provide in-person teaching demonstration.
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
PREFERENCES
- Three (full-time) years of recent experience teaching EAP to adult immigrants of diverse cultural, linguistic, educational, and economic backgrounds in the community college setting
