Position Summary
The Assistant Professor position in the Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Northwest is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month position. (Summer assignments and associated stipend are possible in accordance with programmatic need.) The Assistant Professor of English will be an experienced teacher of first-year writing and professional or technical communications writing who is committed to the success of a broad range of students and will have an active record of scholarship. A subfield in cultural or digital rhetorics is a plus. This position requires participation in a wide range of activities tied to our departmental writing program and the university’s Writing Center.
Core responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and M.A. students in face-to-face and online modalities in the Department of English as well as service activities. The Assistant Professor of English position is responsible for a 12-hour per semester teaching load with an expected productive program of research and scholarly publication supported by a reduction in teaching load. Active involvement in service to the department, campus, discipline, and the community is also expected.

One of seven campuses of Indiana University, IU Northwest is located in metropolitan Northwest Indiana, approximately 30 miles southeast of Chicago and 10 miles from the Indiana Dunes National Park. Basic Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- An earned PhD in Composition and Rhetoric by August 1, 2025
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research and/or creative activity
- Demonstrated experience teaching first-year composition courses at the university level
Preferred Qualifications:
- A subfield in cultural or digital rhetoric
- At least one published or forthcoming article or book chapter
- Experience with university writing centers and asynchronous online teaching
- Experience teaching professional/technical communications writing at the university level
- Experience teaching a broad range of students including first-generation college students
- Membership and engagement in academic and professional associations related to the discipline

Salary and Rank
