Seattle Central College is searching for a Vice President of Administrative Services.

Salary Range for this position is $140,569.00 to $194,119.00 annually.

Position Summary

The Vice President of Administrative Services (VPAS) is responsible for facilitating the efficient and successful operations of Seattle Central College¿s operations as with respect to its administrative and operational services. The VPAS works collaboratively with the College¿s leadership team and members of the College community to formulate policies and procedures to assure the effective operation of the College, with a particular emphasis on administrative services and operations. The VPAS manages and oversees the College¿s day-to-day administrative services operations and serves as the primary point of contact to members of the College community for services and operations which are carried out at the District level. In collaboration and consultation with the relevant College and District administrators, the VPAS advises on the vision and leadership in the areas of financial services, budget, campus safety and security, facilities, and capital projects and serves as the College¿s enterprise risk manager.

This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8am to 5pm.

This position works 100% on-site.

What you will be working on:

  • In consultation with the College¿s and District¿s leadership teams, oversees and manages the day-to-day administrative operations of Seattle Central College, including Facilities, Campus Safety and Security, Auxiliary Services, and Mainstay.
  • Maintains College-based oversight of the Business Office and Cashiering units that report administratively to the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Operations.
  • Engages with all college stakeholders to assess the administrative services provided by the District, communicates issues, concerns and needs to the District and advocates for the interests of the College consistent with the goals of College leadership.
  • As the College¿s administrative services liaison to the District, informs College leadership of both strategic and emerging administrative issues so College leadership can provide appropriate direction. Proactively communicates with the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Operations to inform them of College initiatives and plans that may impact District operations and finances so the implications of those changes can be worked through in a timely manner. Serves as the College¿s primary liaison between administrative operations provided by the District (e.g. financial services, etc.) and College leadership.
  • Serves as the College¿s enterprise risk management officer, manages enterprise risk assessment and mitigation process to ensure that risks are consistently identified, evaluated, and resolved, mitigated, or accepted. Responsible for maintaining the College¿s risk register.
  • Oversees and manages the day-to-day auxiliary operations of Seattle Central College, including parking and transportation management, food services and the bookstore. Consults with College and District leadership on strategic matters. In the event these operations or services are provided by third parties, this position serves as the College¿s primary contact for the third-party and manages the relevant contracts.
  • Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with, the College¿s and District¿s leadership teams, oversees the implementation and management of short- and long-term financial plans for the College. Advises College and District leadership teams on the prioritization of funding requests such that funding decisions align with the College’s mission and vision.
  • In partnership with the Business Office leadership, manages the College¿s budget development process, recommends improvements to the process to College leadership, works closely with College leadership to evaluate the financial resources needed to undertake and support current operations and new initiatives.
  • Consults with budget managers about deviations from budget and communicates budget issues to senior college leadership, using information provided by District Finance.
  • Commissions financial analysis by District finance staff.
  • Serves as an advisor to the President on administrative matters, including providing an objective perspective on non-administrative functions.
  • Manages the development, review and administration of leases, licenses and rental agreements in a manner that safeguards the resources of the College and ensures that funds are used appropriately, efficiently and legally.
  • Serves as the College¿s primary point of contact with the District and third parties regarding capital projects.
  • Ensures College adherence and conformity to District, city, state and federal codes, laws and policies by establishing and implementing procedures for the legal integrity of the College.
  • Contributes to a transparent decision-making system that maintains and improves the quality of educational offerings and services. Assures that resource allocation is strategically guided and supports achievement of the College¿s and District¿s mission, vision, and strategic plans.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Earned Bachelor¿s Degree
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible, successful, relevant administrative and/or managerial experience that includes considerable knowledge of budgetary processes and procedures in higher education or in the public/private sector.
  • Evidence of successful leadership that demonstrates exceptional organizational, communication, interpersonal, budget management, negotiation and personnel management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse multicultural urban community.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal skills with ability to explain complex issues in easy to understand terms.
  • Demonstrated excellent presentation skills with ability to explain complex issues in easy-to-understand terms to diverse constituencies of varying sizes.
  • Considerable knowledge of accounting/finance/budgetary processes and procedures applicable to institutions of higher education or public sector entities.
  • Evidence of problem-solving skills and innovative thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage change across all levels of an organization
