Position Announcement

The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health and Public Service (CHPS) at Utah Valley University (UVU) invites applications for a non-tenure earning lecturer position. The preferred start date is August 1, 2025. Candidates who are registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN) with expertise in human nutrition and dietetics and clinical experience in the nutritional management of chronic diseases and conditions are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses while demonstrating high quality course delivery and student learning and engagement. They will be expected to mentor students and provide them with sound advice for professional development; participate in internal and external professional service activities; and demonstrate collegiality in all aspects of faculty engagement. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

The Department of Health Sciences is home to eight full-time faculty and approximately 500 students in the minor. We offer an undergraduate degree in Health Sciences with two tracks – Pre-Clinical and Health Coaching. Development of a Master of Dietetics is a future goal pending university approval. Summary of Responsibilities

Additional Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Teach 15 credits per semester, primarily in undergraduate nutrition courses, with the possibility of teaching general health courses.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods and modalities including online, hybrid, face-to-face, and live-streaming formats, potentially including evening and weekend classes.
  • Design, plan, and teach courses with clearly defined learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Prepare instructional materials such as syllabi, examinations, visual aids, and presentations as needed.
  • Evaluate and maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and accountability.
  • Assist with curriculum and program review, revision, and assessment.
  • Establish and maintain clinical sites and experiences for students, as assigned.
  • Assist in program recruitment and student selection processes.
  • Provide academic advising and maintain regular office hours for student support.
  • Participate in departmental service including mentoring part-time faculty, attending department meetings, and contributing to departmental initiatives.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

  • Earned master’s degree or doctorate, Ph.D. or equivalent in human nutrition/dietetics or a closely related discipline from an accredited academic institution by the start of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Earned doctorate, or its equivalent, in nutrition or a closely related discipline from an accredited academic institution.
  • Three or more years of full-time clinical practice as an RDN (i.e., post-credentialing) in a hospital or equivalent setting.
  • Specialty certification with a clinical focus (e.g., CNSC, CDE, CSP, CSPCC, CSR, CSO, CDCES, CDR Advanced Practitioner Certification in Clinical Nutrition).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and effectiveness as the instructor of record for nutrition or closely related courses at an institution of higher education.
  • Experience serving as a preceptor for students completing dietetic internships/supervised experiential learning rotations; routinely providing interprofessional education for other members of the healthcare team; experience as a teaching assistant; and/or other equivalent experience as determined by the search committee.
  • Evidence of effective student mentoring.
