Job Summary
The Assistant Professor of Sociology is a tenure track position. Duties include teaching undergraduate courses, participating in scholarly activity, mentoring and advising students, and participating in departmental and university activities. Other duties may include curriculum development, participating in professional development activities, and seeking external funding for research.

Responsibilities
Teaching:Course Delivery:
Teaching a range of Sociology courses, including introductory, advanced, and specialized topics.
Curriculum Development:
Contributing to the development and refinement of course content and curricula.
Student Advising:
Serving as an academic advisor to students, providing guidance on course selection, career planning, and other academic matters.
Excellence in Teaching:
Albany State University is a State University and emphasizes excellence in teaching. Our faculty strive to make coursework relevant and incorporate high impact practices.
Scholarly Activity:
Developing and maintaining scholarly activity appropriate to field. Scholarly Activity may include pedagogical and applied research. Typical examples include publishing, presentations, participation in workshops and conferences, and grant writing to support research.
Student Success:
Mentoring and supervising students is an important part of student success. Additionally, teaching professional practices and career based competencies is crucial to the success of our students beyond graduation.
Service:
Departmental Service: Participating in departmental committees, meetings, and other activities.
University Service: Contributing to university-wide initiatives and committees.
Community Engagement: Engaging with the broader community through public speaking, outreach programs, and other activities.
Required Qualifications
The master’s degree in Sociology.
Experience teaching in Sociology.
A record of scholarly achievement and/or impactful service.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. degree in Sociology.
College teaching experience.
Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration.
Proposed Salary
Salary range is from $51,600 to $57,000.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent communication, written and technology skills.
Demonstrate ability for effective teaching and scholarship.
Demonstrate support of professional organizations in the discipline and have potential for obtaining external funding.
