Position Summary

Director of Family Office Program and Visiting Lecturer in Law
The Indiana University Maurer School of Law invites applications from individuals interested in leading, expanding, and institutionalizing our Family Office Program (FOP). Launched in 2020, the FOP provides first-year law students with high-quality internships in the family office sector, positioning them for long-term success in transactional and advisory legal careers. With over a dozen participating employers and Net Promoter Scores exceeding 9.0 for both students and employers, the FOP is a nationally distinctive offering.
The Director of the FOP will also teach courses as a visiting lecturer in our transactional law curriculum and establish for students a robust internal and external transactional law competition program.
This is a full-time, two-year, non-tenure-track academic appointment, commencing in the Fall 2025 semester, with potential for reappointment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership – Family Office Program (FOP):

  • Serve as the primary academic and administrative leader of IU Maurer’s Family Office Program, coordinating all program elements including student recruitment, internship placements, employer engagement, advisory board relations, and alumni communications.
  • Deepen the academic foundation of the Family Office Program through curricular innovation, guest speaker events, and case study development.
  • Execute the long-term strategy laid out in existing planning documents, with the goal of making the FOP sustainable, scalable, and nationally recognized.

Teaching and Curriculum Development:

  • Teach at least one skills course per semester in the area of transactional law, which may include transactional practice, negotiation, drafting, and family office focuses.
  • Develop transactional curriculum elements, including internal and external student competitions.
  • Mentor students pursuing business-oriented legal careers, with a special emphasis on those with family office or closely held business interests.

Basic Qualifications

  • A J.D. degree with strong academic credentials from an ABA accredited law school.
  • At least seven years of practice experience in transactional law, preferably with exposure to or direct involvement with family offices, family-owned business, private equity, wealth management, or closely held businesses.
  • Existing professional network within the family business and/or family office sector or related professional services industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully teach, mentor, and inspire students.
  • Success leading teams and building programs.
