Key Responsibilities
The Department of Communication at Juniata College invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term in-person faculty position for the 2025-2026 academic year to start in August. We seek a dynamic, student-centered teacher-scholar with a background in Communication studies to join our interdisciplinary department. Ability to teach a media production course preferred. This position includes teaching sections of Mass Media and Society, Public Speaking, and an upper-level Film Studies course, as well as a possible media production course. The Communication Department emphasizes critical inquiry, civic engagement, and applied learning across a range of courses. Faculty in the department often collaborate with programs in Integrated Media Arts and Peace & Conflict Studies.
Responsibilities:
- Teach a 3/4 course load, including:
- Mass Media and Society, an introductory course exploring the cultural, political, economic, and technological dynamics of media institutions and audiences
- Public Speaking, a foundational course emphasizing oral communication and rhetorical practice
- Film Studies course (topics flexible and based on expertise)
- Upper-level Special topics course based on area of expertise
- Optional – Media/Video Production course
- Engage students in critical analysis of media, culture, and power using cultural studies frameworks
- Contribute to departmental initiatives, interdisciplinary programs, and a liberal arts learning environment

* A Master’s degree in Communication, Mass Communications, Rhetoric, or a closely related field is required
* ABD or Ph.D. in Communication or a related discipline is strongly preferred
* Demonstrated excellence or promise in undergraduate teaching, especially in courses related to media, culture, and society
* Ability to mentor students from diverse backgrounds and engage in inclusive pedagogySupervision Required/Given
