Position Summary
The Assistant Director of the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) oversees various functions and student employment within the Office, supporting many of the operational aspects of OSE programs and services. This position supervises OSE student employees, providing training, support, and evaluation.
The Assistant Director serves as the primary point of contact for the commuter student experience, including advising the Commuter Council. Alongside other OSE staff, the Assistant Director implements major campus event planning and programming.
The Assistant Director assists in managing OSE operations and providing overall customer service. This position supports all SGA-recognized student organizations by arranging for the sale of tickets, fundraising items, and van and credit card use.
This individual devotes particular attention to the inclusive nature of the Stonehill community, fostering greater diversity within the staff and student body, as well as a broader range of perspectives across the institution. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Student Engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Office Initiatives, Programs, and Supervision
- Responsible for the supervision, recruitment, training, and evaluation of students working in the Office.
- Advise the Commuter Council, including frequent meetings, structuring the group, event planning, and supporting commuter life at Stonehill.
- Supervise student Event Interns and their program planning
- Plan and execute Family Weekend, including communicating with families, coordinating hotel room blocks, updating the Family Weekend website, collaborating with campus partners to finalize event schedules and book spaces across campus, designing advertisements to promote the weekend, and continually evaluating the effectiveness of the program.
- Coordinate Ace’s Holiday Wonderland events, including planning the annual Tree Lighting
- Coordinate onboarding of new office members (i.e., students, graduate assistants, staff).
- Serve as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and
- work to advance the College’s mission of diversity and inclusion.
Student Organization Support
- Advises a class committee of the Student Government Association.
- Support student organizations with event planning and consultation.
- Oversee SGA vans, including reservations, maintenance, insurance, and driver certification.
- Oversee the logistics and advertising of the College’s Uber program, including managing limits
- Assist student organizations with reimbursements, deposits, fundraising sales, and budget updates.
Roche Commons Operations
- When open, manage the overall operations and needs of the Information Desk.
- Manage the table reservations process in the Commons.
- Publicize, recruit, and manage the off-campus vendor program.
- Oversee student organization inventory stored in the Dining Commons.
Office Support Services and Functions
- Provide hospitable service to students, constituents, staff, and College visitors as a point of contact for the Office of Student Engagement.
- Prepare event contract documents and ensure delivery, as needed.
- Manage rideshare programs from campus to specific local locations, including responding to student feedback/complaints and developing reports summarizing usage, expenses, and concerns.
Staff Member
- Seek ways within Student Affairs to evidence and support student understanding of the Holy Cross values, and as such, possess an appreciation for liberal arts in the Catholic tradition.
- Attend Office staff meetings, trainings, or other events assigned by the Director of Student Engagement.
- Participate in the management and implementation of Office and student events.
- Work nights and weekends as required.
- Serve on Food Committee, Fun Fund Committee, and other College committees as assigned.
- Serve in Student Affairs Staff On-Call rotation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Master’s degree in Student Personnel or related field required. Event planning, supervision, and advising skills are desirable.
