Cleary University invites candidates to apply for the position of Full-time Faculty in Leadership and Management. The academic team at Cleary University seeks a dynamic, passionate, and student-centered Full-time Faculty member possessing a successful record of championing a strong, vibrant, and relevant student educational experience of exceptional quality and relevance to the current and future workforce.

Fulfilling Cleary University’s Mission, the Full-time Faculty member works closely with key academic, student affairs, and operational leaders and personnel to support the success of Cleary University’s student body. Full-time Faculty provide instructional and assessment responsibilities for their courses, support the development of new and revision to existing academic curriculum consistent with the Cleary University system of academic governance, and serve on committees and participate in various academic and University initiatives.

This position primarily works with Cleary’s experienced professional student population. These students comprise professionals from public safety (including police, fire, and emergency medical services, and corrections), public service, military, and corporate backgrounds. Students pursue their undergraduate or graduate degrees while often balancing full-time employment and family responsibilities. Instruction for this group emphasizes practical application of course content, accelerated course formats, and flexibility in delivery. Faculty prioritize real-world problem-solving and the integration of students’ professional experiences into class discussions and projects.

Other key Cleary student groups include traditional campus-based students and student athletes taking courses across a variety of instructional modalities.

In particular, we are looking for a Full-time Faculty member who possesses relevant professional, teaching, and curriculum development experience to the Leadership and Management domains, with academic, teaching, and professional expertise in two or more of the following areas:

  • Leadership Theories and Applications
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Strategy
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking
  • Ethics
  • Change Management

This full-time position will be based at Cleary University’s Howell, MI, campus or Detroit Education Center in Detroit, MI. Since this is not a remote position, candidates must be able to reasonably commute to one of Cleary’s two locations. The position reports to the Dean of Graduate Studies and Adult Education Programs. The faculty rank will be at the Associate Professor level.

Responsibilities

Instruction and Classroom Management

  • With a normal teaching load of 33 semester credits during the 12-month academic year, teach hybrid and online classes that may occur across the University’s student populations and that personally engage students using active, hands-on activities in the classroom and via video conferencing.
  • Utilize the Canvas learning management system to deliver instruction (using a master course structure and University-selected textbook/content materials, which faculty are welcome to supplement) and in-person student engagement using tools and features to deliver course content and record classroom attendance, grades, and assignments according to Cleary University instructional expectations.
  • Implement relevant, creative, and effective teaching methodologies and tool utilization (including the appropriate and professional use of AI) to engage learners and inspire original thinking, problem solving, global sustainability, professional communications, ethics and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Assess student learning based on institutional outcomes, degree and program outcomes, and course outcomes in an unbiased, timely, and respectful manner.
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours (minimum of one hour per week for each three semester credit hour course) and be available to students on a regular basis.
  • Embrace education for diverse, global, and multi-cultural students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Student Advising, Support, and Enrollment

  • Assist in the academic guidance and advising of students in conjunction with Academic Advising.
  • Work collaboratively with other faculty members, departments, and staff to develop a meaningful experience for students.
  • Monitor student academic progress, addressing student academic challenges and emergencies in consultation with the appropriate Academic Dean.
  • Work collaboratively with marketing and admissions colleagues to develop student recruitment materials and participate in prospective student outreach efforts.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation and related student-facing sessions.

Curriculum Revision and Development

  • Serve as the subject matter expert in collaboration with instructional design within the system of academic governance to develop and revise the academic curriculum for strength, vibrancy, relevancy, and quality, including key usage of periodic assessment and program review efforts.
  • Participate in student learning assessment with in-class assessment duties as well as assessment and analysis reporting duties as assigned.
  • Serve as lead reviewer in curriculum program reviews based on their discipline, or as a support team member in a program review when the subject matter is off discipline.

Professional Development and Service

  • Participate in professional development sessions, including New Faculty Orientation and training on instructional systems, pedagogy, and academic policies.
  • Serve on university committees related to academic governance, teaching and learning, assessment, university operations, and other committees/task forces as periodically convened. All full-time faculty members are assigned to the Faculty Senate.
  • Attend required academic and university meetings.

Qualifications

  • An earned master’s degree from an institutionally (i.e., regionally) accredited college/university in management, leadership, or a closely related discipline, with at least 18 graduate semester credits in relevant coursework. Strong preference given to candidates with an earned doctorate or active enrollment in a doctoral program from an institutionally (i.e., regionally) accredited institution in a discipline listed above.
  • One to three years of teaching experience at the university/college level, with preference given to those candidates with one to three years of current professional experience in management, leadership, or a closely related discipline.
  • One to three years of professional experience reaching the level of manager, director, or senior leader in a business or organizational setting.
  • Successful experience developing or revising academic curriculum in management, leadership, or a closely related discipline.
  • Ability to learn and use the Canvas learning management system, Zoom video conferencing, Microsoft Office applications, AI models, and other software programs for communicating with students, faculty leadership, and faculty peers.
  • Ability to embrace The Cleary Mind™ as the University’s approach to building each student’s professional skills required by the workforce and job market.
  • Ability to apply professional experiences to inform and inspire students about workforce projects, situations, and challenges.
