Job Description

The proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine at Xavier University (XUCOM), a Catholic University in the Jesuit tradition, invites applications for the Assistant/Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs and Graduate Medical Education (GME). This role will coordinate the curricular activities related to clerkship training/rotations, and establish relationships with partner institutions to develop and support existing GME / residency programs. Emphasis will be placed on creating new clinical rotation training positions and residency opportunities for XUCOM students, with a focus on increasing the number of GME programs that offer osteopathic recognition (OR). This position is involved in XUCOM’s strategic planning initiatives, student recruitment/admissions, student health/wellness, student retention, curriculum development, and the design and implementation of student coaching and advising activities that guide and support students as they apply for residency training. This position reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and works closely with the members of the Dean’s Council. There is an opportunity to secure clinical privileges and patient care with one of XUCOM’s teaching hospital-partners as a 0.2 FTE role, making this administrative role a 0.8 FTE with Xavier University.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, support and directly oversee the clinical education curriculum and clinical assessment of students throughout their medical education with a focus on clinical skills
  • Facilitate the procurement of MOUs and contracts with teaching sites
  • Oversee the staff and all activities in the Office of Clinical Affairs
  • Establish and annually update policies and procedures related to clerkship rotations
  • Lead key sections of the COCA Self Study as assigned by the Dean
  • Supervise the Director of the Office of GME and Regional Assistant Deans
  • Advise and mentor medical students and residents
  • Contribute to the Mission of the College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Required

  • DO degree from a COCA-accredited college of osteopathic medicine
  • Current AOA and/or ABMS board certification in a medical or surgical specialty
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive responsibility leading curricular and GME development
  • Minimum of 3 years leading an ACGME-accredited residency program
  • Leadership skills essential to mentoring junior faculty

Preferred

  • Leadership experience as Residency Program Director or Associate Program Director
  • Leadership experience as a Department Chair and/or Assistant/Associate Dean
  • Experience with the COCA accreditation process
  • Strong Organizational Skills
