Job Location: Pineland Campus – New Gloucester, ME
Education Level: 4 Year Degree
Travel Percentage: Up to 50%
The Opportunity:
The Assistant/Associate Director of Recruitment for In-Person Education at Unity Environmental University is a student-centered, mission-driven position responsible for generating enrollment into the Unity at Pineland program, a bold alternative to traditional residential education, built around immersive 5-week terms, hands-on field learning, and a radically flexible structure. Unity’s in-person model redefines what’s possible for modern learners, including those who have stopped out, are navigating life transitions, or are looking to reskill into green careers without the baggage of outdated systems. As the most affordable private institution in Maine, we believe that education should meet people where they are, and this role ensures it does. This role requires a strategic leader who understands hands-on, term-based programming and is eager to connect with students seeking alternatives to traditional campus life. The Assistant/Associate Director will develop and implement recruitment strategies that reflect the unique value proposition of Unity’s in-person education: experiential learning in 5-week terms, access to real-world environmental applications, and flexible housing options for students who may not fit the conventional college mold.
This full-time, benefits eligible, fully in-person, role is based in New Gloucester, Maine, with travel expected. The standard workweek ranges from 45 to 55 hours.
Day to day responsibilities:
- Design and execute dynamic, inclusive recruitment strategies that increase enrollment while challenging conventional definitions of who college is for. Build messaging that speaks to second-chance learners, working adults, and mission-driven students who want hands-on, environmentally focused education without sacrificing flexibility or affordability.
- Identify new student populations aligned with hands-on, flexible learning.
- Collaborate with Marketing to align messaging with the needs of non-traditional, environmentally focused learners.
- Promote Unity’s unique approach to in-person education, including modular terms, experiential learning, and optional housing.
- Champion alternative recruitment pipelines for stop-outs, adult learners, commuter students, and career changers seeking a fresh start.
- Leverage Unity at Pineland’s affordable tuition and accelerated term model to promote degree completion for students with prior credits.
- Develop and test unconventional outreach models, such as mobile recruitment, pop-up advising, or workplace education partnerships to reach students who may not see themselves in traditional education.
- Lead and manage the in-person recruitment team, ensuring alignment with the Unity at Pineland’s enrollment goals.
- Establish performance metrics and accountability structures for recruitment staff.
- Collaborate with student success to ensure a seamless handoff.
- Build relationships with high schools, transfer pipelines, environmental organizations, workforce training entities, and mission-aligned partners.
- Represent Unity at Pineland at regional recruitment events, school visits, community events, and career fairs.
- Partner with centralized Advancement and Career Services teams to support dual-purpose messaging and outcomes.
- Collaborate with Student Success to ensure admitted students feel supported and prepared to begin their in-person experience.
- Design recruitment experiences that showcase the on-campus environment, including immersive Discovery Days of Unity at Pineland offerings.
- Use enrollment funnel data and market research to adjust strategies and report outcomes.
- Monitor student behavior trends and apply insights to improve recruitment approaches.
Do you have the skills?
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.

- Knowledge of the regional educational and workforce landscape.
- Proven supervisory experience, including oversight of staff, scheduling, and performance management.
