Assistant/Associate Professor of Special Education in the Spadoni College of Education and Social Sciences at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in Special Education in the Department of Teacher Education. The successful applicant will begin in August 16, 2026.
Candidates must hold a doctorate degree in Special Education or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework in Special Education and have a minimum of three years successful special education teaching experience PK-12 public schools. Prior university experience is preferred. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and supervise field experiences and/or internships. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in literacy interventions and/or elementary special education teaching experience.
This faculty position requires teaching courses to pre-service and in-service teachers in the Special Education program; advising students; providing professional, community, and university service; and mentoring and supervising students in field placements. Scholarship that advances the field, including research and publication, is required. The Teacher Education Department supports and values diversity in its faculty, staff, and students. The Special Education Program at Coastal Carolina University is a specially designed program of study that meets educational requirements for South Carolina licensure in grades PreK-12 Special Education. The Special Education Program includes extensive clinical experiences in area schools, beginning in the first semester of study in education and continuing through the internship experience at the end of the program. Clinical fieldwork begins with a focus on guided observation experiences, followed by expectations for individual, small-group, and whole-class instruction.

Job Duty
- Teaches students in the classroom, laboratory, and/or studio.
- Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
- Conducts research to create and add to knowledge in a fi eld or produces creative work. Trains students in related research techniques and in creative production.
- Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
