RANK: Assistant/Associate Professor of Sport and Fitness Management (tenure-track)
ABOUT THE POSITION: The Department of Kinesiology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Sport and Fitness Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 9 hours per semester, engaging in scholarly activities, and offering service to the department, college, and university. Applicants should have the ability to teach a variety of courses in the undergraduate sport and fitness management program, including but not limited to Sport Marketing, Sport Finance, Sport Analytics, Esports, Introduction to Sport Law, and Event Management. Additional responsibilities include establishing connections with potential internship and occupational sites for undergraduate students, developing curriculum, recruiting students, and performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences and the Kinesiology Department Chair. The ideal candidate will be committed to effective classroom teaching, student mentoring, curriculum development, and professional scholarly activity.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in Sport Management or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Experience teaching university students in sport management, athletic administration, or a related field
- Demonstrated evidence of scholarly productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed manuscripts, presentations, external funding)
- Demonstrated evidence of ability to pursue a defined research agenda in Sport Management
- Experience teaching university students in online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face models
- Demonstrated evidence of university service (committees, etc.)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing sport management curriculum and programs
- Ability to collaborate with other units and colleagues within the university and the community
- Experience in writing program requirements for accreditation
- Demonstrated potential in grant writing and a history of funded projects
- Active participation in pertinent professional organizations
- Experience in developing, implementing, and building sustainable collaborative relationships with business entities and government agencies
- Industry experience in sport management or related fields
- Experience with COSMA (Commission on Sport Management Accreditation) processes and standards
Additional Information: The Department of Kinesiology is authorized to award a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with concentrations in Exercise Science and Physical Education, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport & Fitness Management. The Sport & Fitness Management program is designed to prepare students for entry into management, marketing, and administration positions of sport programs in educational and sport business settings, as well as graduate programs. Program outcomes align with the standards of key professional associations, such as COSMA.
Rank and Salary: This is a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with rank, experience, and qualifications. An excellent and comprehensive benefits package is available.
APPOINTMENT DATE: Anticipated start date is Fall 2026, with the potential for Spring 2026 depending on program needs and candidate availability.
