The Hampton University School of Pharmacy invites nominations and applications for highly motivated applicants for the position of Assistant Dean of Student Affairs beginning September 1, 2025. This position requires candidates with the requiste educational qualifications and experience to be appointed at the level of Assistant Professor or higher in the School of Pharmacy.

It is located on the east coast of Virginia in the picturesque Hampton Roads area that includes the cities of Hampton, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Newport News.
Description of the School
Hampton University School of Pharmacy established a new Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program that has achieved approval of Candidate Status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in July 2025. The School has already enrolled students into the program with an anticipated graduation date for its first cohort in May 2028. The school currently offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with minors in Pharmaceutical Science, Environmental Health Science, and Public Health.

Duties and Responsibilities for the position:
The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs reports to the Dean of the School of Pharmacy. The responsibilities of this position include coordination of all facets of student recruitment, admissions, and retention; providing a broad range of student services, assisting with accreditation and grantsmanship activities and other duties assigned by the Dean. The Assistant Dean works closely with the Dean, is a member of the Executive Council, assists the Dean in managing the daily operations of the School and represents the Dean in his or her absence.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Oversee HUSOP Admissions and Recruitment, including the Recruitment Plan
- Oversee and Coordinate HU Pharm Ready Program along with Academic Affairs
- Oversee and Coordinate Annual New Student Orientation
- Oversee and Coordinate Student Advisement activities, and assist with coordination of P1 Success Week
- Oversee the Forum course that is designed to offer information on career opportunities
- Oversee several components of Student Affairs including the Student Handbook (Professional & Undergraduate), FERPA compliance, disability services compliance, and all aspects of student services including housing, mental health referrals, etc.)
- Conduct Staff evaluations
- Serve on various HUSOP and University Committees as both full or Ex-Officio member, and Chair the Student Affairs and Adminssions committees.
- Provide oversight on student adminssions including updating the rubric, managing interviews & generation of the final selection list, and other admissions components
- Oversee Student Officer Guidelines for student leadership positions and guide selection of students for committees
- Identifying and tracking students each semester who do not meet SOP academic standards including students who will be placed on probation, suspension and dismissal.
- Serving as primary advisor for all sophomore pre-pharmacy students and secondary advisor for all pharmacy students
- Ensuring compliance with accreditation standards related to student affairs, with particular emphasis on ACPE Standard 4 (2025)
- Oversee grievance for non-academic matters, including student professional conduct matters
- Assist HUSOP Dean with alignment of Strategic Plan
- Assist HUSOP Dean with Coordination of Financial Aid
- Coordinate student tutoring, mentorship, and oversee the Alumni Mentorship program
- Oversee management of student databases, and work closely with the Offices of Academic Affairs and Assessment to ensure compliance with reporting and accreditation requirements.
- Providing instruction in school programs in areas of expertise
- Maintaining an active program in scholarly activity
- Providing general support to the program by attending University, Community and Professional events, and undertaking any additional responsibilities as assigned by the Dean
Qualifications
Academic Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in a health professions or biomedical sciences discipline. A PharmD is strongly preferred.
- Record of achievement for appointment at rank preferably at associate professor or higher
- Prior experience in the following areas preferred
- Student Affairs
- Student Recruitment
- Accreditation
- Fundraising

- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong understanding of a variety of health professions
