Ripon College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication with an emphasis in new and emerging media studies or digital media. Ripon College is a Phi Beta Kappa liberal arts college committed to excellence in undergraduate education; the Department of Communication at Ripon College has received the National Communication Association’s Undergraduate Division Rex Mix Program of Excellence Award. The Department now seeks to expand its major and minor programs to include Media Studies; the successful candidate will help envision a new curriculum.

The faculty at Ripon College are a talented and dynamic group of teacher-scholars who work closely with a diverse student population on capstone and undergraduate research projects and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration with one another on scholarship and creative activity. The faculty benefit from wide-ranging opportunities for support, including curriculum development grants, travel grants, scholarly/artistic grants, and colleague teaching grants. Successful applicants for faculty positions at Ripon College will join a group of teacher-scholars who embrace the standards of social justice; value the principles of equity and inclusion, and seek to foster and facilitate student achievement at all levels.

The successful candidate must be prepared to design and effectively teach an array of media studies courses that will engage students in project-based and applied learning opportunities, and ideally, also to teach introductory courses in either interpersonal communication or public speaking. Contributions to Ripon College’s innovative Catalyst Curriculum would be expected. Teaching load is three classes per semester. Our small collegial department is highly supportive of innovations in teaching and research. A Ph.D. in Communication of Media Studies is preferred; ABDs may be considered.

Qualifications and Application

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD in Communication, Media Studies, or closely related field.
  • Strong commitment to student engagement, such as applied and project-based learning.
  • Willingness to help envision curricular changes and design new courses.
  • Ability and willingness to develop one or more courses to be taught in Ripon’s Catalyst curriculum.
  • Clearly articulated research agenda.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach either interpersonal communication, public speaking, or both.
  • Willingness to engage in collaborative work across disciplines.
  • Commitment to undergraduate education.
  • Evidence of effective teaching experience.
