Position Overview:
The Department of Design and Creative Technology at The College of New Jersey invites applications for a 10-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Graphic Design, starting in August 2026. The successful candidate will teach a selection of courses in our existing Graphic Design curriculum. They will also play a central role in preparing students for a rapidly evolving industry by expanding our curriculum into new areas of design, such as physical spaces and environments, mixed and virtual reality, and social media ecosystems. The department seeks a collaborative colleague with the experience and insights to guide students through the opportunities and challenges presented by new technologies, including generative AI.

In addition to teaching and scholarship, the position entails student advising, curricular development, career guidance, as well as mentoring students in the development of their portfolios. The successful hire will look to foster collaborative partnerships within the industry, and cultivate professional opportunities for students. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to collaborate on the implementation and leadership of a newly instituted co-curricular public relations and design agency “Creative State,” which draws clients from the region surrounding the College, including the state capitol, Trenton.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A Master’s or equivalent terminal degree (MFA, MGD, MDes, etc.) in Graphic Design, Design, or a related field at time of appointment (degrees will be considered only if completed prior to the start date);
  • Demonstrated expertise in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, mixed reality, and/or virtual reality;
  • College-level teaching experience in Graphic Design or related design disciplines; and
  • A record of relevant scholarly research, professional and/or creative activity.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrate effective teaching skills in the context of an undergraduate curriculum, with the ability to mentor students at all levels;
  • Have experience developing curricula, and advising and mentoring students;
  • Evidence of collaborative partnerships with professional design studios, technology companies, or other organizations;
  • Experience guiding students in understanding and navigating the implications of AI and other emerging technology for creative practice and professional development;
  • Be positioned to help students navigate the professional landscape and pursue career opportunities.
