Position Summary: The teacher education programs at Mount Mary University embody the principles and values articulated in the University mission and values. The programs share the common purpose of creating reflective and ethical decision-makers who are competent, compassionate, and committed members of their education communities. It is the intent of each program to educate all pre-service teachers with a foundation in the arts and sciences, subject specialty, and personal and professional knowledge. Through University courses, clinical experiences, and personal and professional development, students develop an array of perspectives to bring insight and intentionality to their teaching practice.
The department offers initial certification at the undergraduate and post baccalaureate levels and a Master of Arts in Education in Professional Development. This position is a tenure-track position, and it will offer opportunities to teach in all programs and provide service to the Department, University, and community.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teaching day and evening classes offered primarily on campus and occasionally online using skills of communication, engagement, and adaptability while modeling best practices in instruction.
- Teach a range of courses in undergraduate, post baccalaureate, and master’s programs.
- Provide service to the department including student advising, on-going curriculum development, and participation in university-wide faculty development meetings and experiences.
- Collaborate to maintain state program approval processes.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Mount Mary University.
- Engage with current and prospective students through activities such as connection with student groups, attendance at university-sponsored or recruitment events.
- Engage in scholarly activities that support and advance own teaching practice and the profession, including publication and/or presentation.
- Supervise students in fieldwork and student teaching settings.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in and understanding of current issues and developments in K-12 and higher education.
- Documented leadership experience.
- Experience with accreditation or program approval or evaluation.
- Previous higher education teaching experience.
- Experience in distance education and learning management systems desired.
- Working knowledge and understanding of established professional codes of ethics and best practices for faculty in higher education.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness; experience working with underrepresented students.
- Outstanding verbal and presentation skills; must be able to communicate and interact effectively with Mount Mary students, employees, alumnae, and partners.
- Excellent collaboration skills.
- Exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize projects.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with varied groups, facilitate group process and foster collaborative decision making.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Education (Ph.D. or Ed.D.).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in K-12 Education.
- Wisconsin teaching license in special education or eligibility for Wisconsin licensure.
- Background and experience in early childhood education.
Physical Demands:
- May be required to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must reach, bend, stoop, and lift.
- Must sit and/or stand throughout work day, sometimes for prolonged periods.
- Some repetitive motion may be required.
- Must listen carefully and communicate clearly to others in person, via video conferencing, and on the telephone.
- Extended hours in front of a computer screen may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Office and classrooms environments with varying levels of noise throughout the day.
- Varying workflow; sometimes stressful, with high workload during peak times of the year.
