The Department of Mass Media invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Digital Media Management to begin August 1, 2025. This is a tenure-track position. The department values experiential learning, and the candidate should understand the theory and best practices in digital media storytelling and production. The successful candidate must be able to teach and develop students in the areas of digital strategy, message development, content creation, and collection and analysis of social media metrics. Candidates also must demonstrate a clear research agenda.
Tenure track faculty teach a load equivalent to 12 credit hours per semester. Courses will include those in the media management track, as well as core curriculum courses like Media Analytics, Media History, and Media Law. Additional responsibilities include advising PRSSA, academic advising, and participation in recruitment and retention activities.
The Department of Mass Media is a part of the Holland College of Arts and Media and one of only two Missouri programs accredited by the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or ABD degree (with completion by Aug. 1, 2025) in journalism, mass communications, media management, public relations, or a closely related field. A master’s degree in a media-related field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience will also be considered. (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government-certified university.)
- Demonstrated evidence of continuing scholarly work, i.e., research and/or publications
- Demonstrated experience in digital strategy, message development, and content creation
- Demonstrated experience in the collection and analysis of social media metrics
- Demonstrated ability to teach skills in the Media Management curriculum
- Demonstrated potential for teaching upper-level core curriculum courses, including Media Analytics, Media History, and Media Law
- Interest or experience in advising student organizations and/or academic advising
- Experience, interest, and commitment to working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
