The School of Theatre Arts and Dance (STAD) at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Acting in its pre-professional BFA Acting program.

Position Summary:

We seek an ambitious, energetic, and quality-driven scholar-teacher who is interested in exploring the expanding canon of theatrical style and literature. Specific teaching responsibilities include Acting I (acting fundamentals) and Acting II (scene study). Other assignments based on the candidate’s expertise are possible. The successful candidate will hold flexibility and collegiality as important values, which will enable them to join a team of skilled professionals in a supportive and student-centered environment. In addition to teaching there is a significant expectation of scholarship/professional activity and university/industry service. STAD is especially interested in candidates whose personal and professional experience, teaching, and creative activity will contribute to the advancement of equity, diversity, and cultural wealth at the school and college’s level. Service to the university and/or the profession, and development of a national professional profile commensurate with a tenure-track position are expected.

The School of Theatre Arts and Dance (STAD) at UNC offers five undergraduate majors, BFA in Acting, BFA in Musical Theatre. BFA in Design Technology, BA in Theatre Education, and BA in Theatre Studies. STAD is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) and produces a robust theatrical season that averages six mainstage offerings per year including two musicals and a dance concert. It also operates the 90-year-old Little Theatre of the Rockies summer stock theatre. STAD’s talented students are taught and mentored by 18 full-time faculty and staff members and an outstanding roster of professional guest artists from the entertainment industry. Minimum Qualifications:
Earned MFA in Acting or related performance-based field at the anticipated time of hiring (August 2025)
At least 2 years of experience teaching acting at the collegiate level as instructor of record
Evidence of achievement, or potential for achieving, a national profile of professional creative activity in acting

Preferred Qualifications:
Commitment to inclusive recruitment practices to attract a diverse body of students
Experience teaching Stanislavski, Meisner or a related acting technique at the collegiate level
Demonstrated success teaching strong foundational skills in acting to first- and second- year Acting and Musical Theatre majors
Membership in Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) and/or SAG/AFTRA
Experience directing professional and/or college-level theatre productions
Ability to teach in one or more of the following areas: Acting for the Camera, Voice and Speech, Stage Dialects, Acting Styles, Stage Combat, Improvisation, Intimacy training, acting and theatrical styles beyond the traditional European canon.
