The Flagler College Department of Humanities invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Anthropology to begin August 2026. The ideal candidate will be an archaeologist prepared to contribute to the undergraduate Anthropology Program. Prospective candidates must be capable of teaching undergraduate courses in anthropology and archaeology. The teaching load is four classes per semester. Other responsibilities include committee service and student advising.

The Faculty is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and interdisciplinary approaches to learning. Flagler College is a private independent college with an enrollment of approximately 2,300 students. The college is located in historic St. Augustine, FL, 35 miles south of Jacksonville and 55 miles north of Daytona Beach.

Requirements include a Ph.D. in Anthropology/Archaeology or a related field (ABD will be considered), a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching, and evidence of professional development as a scholar. We seek a broadly-trained archaeologist who is dedicated to teaching excellence, active field-based research, and ongoing campus and community service. We are especially interested in candidates whose research focuses on the archaeology of Native North America or Latin America who are interested in developing a local community-based field project. We encourage applicants whose experience, research, and teaching examine anthropology from diverse, nuanced perspectives. The successful candidate will present evidence for the ability to engage students in high impact experiences, including lab-based courses, archaeological fieldwork, and undergraduate research, which is highly valued by the department and college.
