The Austin College Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Chemistry to begin August 2026. We seek faculty who excel at teaching small classes in a liberal arts setting while also contributing significant research opportunities for our students.
Teaching responsibilities include the general chemistry sequence, upper-level courses in the applicant’s area of expertise, and occasional non-majors science courses. The standard teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester (typically two courses, each including a lecture and accompanying lab) plus a January Term course every other year. Candidates should consider how they would engage undergraduates in research through coursework and/or in projects during the summer or academic year. Startup funds are provided, and additional funding is available for mentoring summer research students. The Austin College Chemistry Department has modern teaching and lab-based research facilities including various modern analytical and spectroscopy instruments.
Austin College faculty also participate in campus service and governance and mentor students as academic advisors. The successful candidate will have strong commitments to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment and to fostering and encouraging participation from a diverse student body.
