Job Description

Applications are being accepted for a new full-time Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU). The position in the Department of Mathematics, Physics, & Computer Science serves the undergraduate program on the Harrogate, TN campus nestled in the unique Cumberland Gap region where Tennessee meets Kentucky and Virginia. The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Computer Science or a closely related field and will contribute to teaching a variety of computer science courses. Possible areas include artificial intelligence, network security, software engineering, or other topics aligned with departmental priorities and the candidate’s expertise. This position primarily involves teaching computer science courses (approximately 80% of the role) and includes contributions to scholarship and service that support the missions of the University, College, and Department, with opportunities to mentor undergraduate research based on individual interests. To ensure a smooth transition into our academic community, the successful candidate will participate in LMU’s New Faculty Academy. Additionally, during their first year, the new faculty member will enjoy moderated scholarship and service expectations while receiving guidance and support from a faculty mentor assigned by the department.

Required Qualifications

Earned Ph.D. in Computer Science or appropriate related discipline; *educational preparation in accordance with requirements of the University and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and *evidence of potential for effective teaching and scholarly activity

Job Duties

  • fulfill the standard instructional, research, and service workload per LMU Employee Handbook
  • provide quality instruction, maintain classroom conduct, and comply with all university policies
  • submit textbook requests, syllabi, grades, and required reports by announced deadlines
  • align course objectives and student learning outcomes with program goals
  • develop and distribute current syllabi for all classes
  • maintain accurate academic files
  • facilitate student’s academic and career explorations
  • engage in professional development and participate in faculty evaluation to improve across teaching, research, and service
  • assist the department chair with recruitment, retention, strategic planning, curricular revisions, and outcomes assessment as requested
  • promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students, and to the community at large
  • promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff, and students
  • participate on university committees
  • maintain proper security for all University files and information and follow privacy procedures at all times
  • maintain records and procedures for duties and responsibilities of position
  • complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites
  • perform other duties as assigned
